We’re not in memory territory this week.

Austin’s take
Assassins: How is a movie directed by Richard Donner, written by Brian Helgeland and the Wachowskis, and starring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore completely forgotten? Because it is. This one is a film I’ve never seen, never heard anything good about, and will never see it. The names involved mean it gets some discussion but meh.
Rating: 3

Dead Presidents: A film that seems to have slipped away though reading up on it, sounds interesting. Combines the hot topics of poverty, race, and Vietnam. Hell of a cast. But no, haven’t seen it and it doesn’t come up much.
Rating: 2

How to Make an American Quilt: Straight no hitter. This one is not recalled, which saddens me just on the principle of supporting women in film. Sounds lovely. Great cast. But got trapped in the wave of other films like it.

Albert’s take:
Assassins. I don’t remember a thing about this movie, but I can’t help but notice a few prominent names attached to the film. For one, it’s directed by Richard Donner. For another, this is written by pre-Matrix Wachowskis! If I was a little indifferent to the trailer, I REALLY want to see the actual movie; the Wachowskis as filmmakers fascinate me. I don’t think they’re the greatest ever, but they take risks and do often interesting things. Also you can’t beat the combo of Antonio Bandaras vs Sylvester Stallone.

I couldn’t find on honest-to-god trailer to watch for Dead Presidents, but I remember its release from the rental store box art, and from that I knew it was a heist film. It’s also a musical group, but I don’t think that’s related. The full movie is apparently on Youtube, and it involves the Vietnam war somehow. I really have nothing else to say about this movie.

How To Make An American Quilt is a movie with a *very* familiar title. It’s weird because I’m sure I’ve never seen it (it has quite a cast and looks like an interesting story), and I’m not even sure I remember actually seeing anything of the movie at the time of its release, but it just looks… familiar. I can’t even put my finger on why.
